93. George A. Lucas, Esq. Medallion.
Baltimorean George Aloysius Lucas (1824-1909) was an expatriate collector and art dealer living in Paris when Brenner arrived there in 1898 with a letter of introduction from Samuel Putnam Avery (see #101). Lucas would become one of Brenner’s most important friends and connections, providing him with the essential introduction to his teacher, Oscar Roty (1846-1911) in 1899. Lucas also arranged for the decorative book binding inserts for Henry Walters (see #s 20 and 30, and #118). For the plaquette of the Lucas design, see #121.
